Are LED bulbs readable? - technological myths

It is said that LED bulbs are energy-saving, but do not save health. Among the effects of their use, there are such ailments as dizziness, eye pains, problems with concentration, and even ... blindness. Are they really so dangerous for us? We check how much truth is in this myth.
Adequate lighting, and above all its timbre and intensity, is able to improve our mood and stimulate to act, affect the concentration and efficiency of our work, and, in some cases, reduce the perceived stress. If we want to look after our eyes, we should use light-emitting bulbs whose color resembles sunlight. The color determination in Kelvin (K) can be found on the packaging. The higher there is the value (5000-7000K), the more light will be colder and suitable for use in work, where a lot of visual effort is required. Lower values (2700-3500K), mean warm light, good for our well-being, relaxing. The color is also marked with letter symbols, where WW (2700-2900K) means warm-white light, W (3000-3500K) white,
Traditional bulbs emit warm, yellow light and are friendly to our eyes. They glow all the time and do not distort colors. However, they take very large amounts of energy. Halogen bulbs, on the other hand, thanks to their white color, are ideal for the workplace, but they tire the eyes. When it comes to compact fluorescent lamps, which we usually encounter in the shape of a U, it happens to distort colors and their color changes over time.
Without additional artificial lighting in the autumn and winter season, we would not be able to perform most of our everyday activities. Unfortunately, it can generate very high bills, which is why we try to save on it by assembling energy-saving LED bulbs at home that consume a much smaller amount of energy than others.
Led lamps to work thanks to light emitting diodes. Their advantages are widely known: they are more durable than incandescent lamps and can work up to several dozen years, do not heat up so much and have greater resistance to damage. There is a possibility of choosing any color temperature, and in addition, quickly burn up to full brightness.
For some time, however, more and more is being said about the dangers of using this kind of lighting. The truth is that the vast majority of objections to LED lamps are only valid for those unbranded, low-quality, low-cost, deviating from standards and not possessing the necessary certificates. The branded fact may ę cause any problems only in the case of wit above, few professional installations.

What are the threats?

One of the problems is flickering, which accelerates visual fatigue, itching and burning eyes, and even distraction, headaches and hyperactivity. It is not always very visible or even noticeable from the corner of the eye. In any case, however, it affects our health.
In turn, the small size of LED lamps that emit too much light, can also us blind. This lattice solution will definitely be better diodes dispersed with additional optics or a few diodes instead of one with high power.
The threat may also be blue light, appearing especially in LED lamps with poor quality phosphors - its long-term intensity badly affects the retinal photoreceptors in the pigment epithelium. This, in turn, has been observed to cause AMD disease and degenerate the macula in senile age.
According to a study by the University of California, LEDs in cheap Christmas lights contain arsenic, lead, nickel, copper and a whole bunch of other hazardous substances that are dangerous to health. For example, reds with low brightness are the most toxic and full of lead, while white ones contain too much nickel. However, the entire product turned out to be damaging, not just the diodes themselves. That is why it is recommended to clean the broken glove lights and throw them into hazardous waste.

recommendations

When choosing the right lighting while reading, it's worth remembering a few rules. The light cannot be too weak or too strong, preferably scattered from above. The lamp should stand sideways and point to the book, which should ideally be kept at a distance of about 30-40 cm from the eyes. For your good, we also advise you to sleep at least 8 hours a day, so that the eyesight can be rested and a diet rich in vitamin A, necessary for our body and taking part in the process of seeing.
Always when buying LED lamps it is worth checking if they have the CE mark and the declaration of conformity with EC directives. It is better not to save on such lighting, because it can be a source of many problems, and finally, a lot of us cost, not only in financial terms. However, we would like to calm you down a bit. Most brand manufacturers choose the spectrum of light emitted by LEDs so that they are safe for us. The risks we cite are only realistic when we choose unbranded products. Let's pay attention to what we buy, and we will not have to worry about our own health🙂
